Who licenses Indiana clinicians
Physician licensure in Indiana is administered by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA), with discipline-specific oversight from the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana. License verification is public and free via the IPLA eVerification portal at mylicense.in.gov/everification.
How Indiana Medicaid is organized
Indiana Medicaid is run by the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). Most members are enrolled in one of three programs:
- Hoosier Healthwise (HHW) — children under 19, pregnant individuals, and some parents/caretakers.
- Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) — low-income adults age 19 to 64 (the state's Medicaid-expansion-style coverage), administered via POWER accounts.
- Hoosier Care Connect — aged, blind, and disabled Hoosiers not enrolled in Medicare.
Applications for all three programs go through the FSSA Benefits Portal at fssabenefits.in.gov; the member helpline is 1-800-403-0864.

Statewide access challenges
Indiana faces persistent challenges around opioid use disorder, particularly in southeastern counties (Scott, Switzerland, Jefferson), and around rural primary-care access in counties without a Critical Access Hospital. The state's network of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) is a primary safety net for uninsured and underinsured residents.
Behavioral-health crisis resources
If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (free, confidential, 24/7). If life is in immediate danger, call 911.
